I was shocked with the news that I would have not been around if the medicines hadn't worked. I still don't know how to deal with that. Strange enough we were all not surprised with the news that the tumours are dissapearing. This is similar when in mourning; its hard to come to terms that a loved one is gone.
I have changed completely. I enjoy every morning waking at 5 o'clock, preparing breakfast with my wife and bring my daughter to the station, followed by a brisk walk and exercise. My son arrived form Holland and we spend time talking, eating, walking. Its just great how content we are as a happy and loving small family.
My second life has started, and I am aware that every moment is important and can be cherished. It can also be lived as before though, and time slips me through the fingers again way too easily. This is normal and human, as I agreed with my sister. Being honest and realistic with myself is what I gained, and when I open my mind and heart a new mission in life will come to me.
Purpose of this blog
My name is Cor and this is my story dealing with mucosal melanoma (MM) in my nose which was diagnosed on 10 Jan 2017. I am married and have 2 kids. I write and update this blog to reach out to all my loved ones far away with updates and my state of mind and also to share information with other patients.

Miracles do happen!
My visit to the hospital yesterday had very good results.
My radiologist stated that he observed a miracle since my Proton Beaming last year April’17 and now.
I will have to continue for 2-3years with bi-weekly Opdivo infusions to reduce the metastasized tumors until No Evidence of Disease (NED) is observed.
This means the sickness has become manageable indefinitely.
Lately I feel very healthy and can work mostly full-time.
My alcohol intake, travel and working hours is still restricted to prevent relapse.

Strange Saturday
The day after the infusion (Friday), I felt like going for a long walk as it was warm and the flowers are blooming everywhere. I followed my usual route, a 10km stretch along the Tama river canal, which took me about 3 hours. So many flowers and birds welcomed me that I didn’t feel how tired I was until I was on the way home.
Today I felt exhausted, with a very strange fog in the head, not very sharp so to say. I couldn’t focus while signing up for the health club. I missed most of the discussions. I will go swimming during the (hot) summer. My experience is that I can’t stand the heat, and fevers with infections start immediately, like sun stroke.
So I relaxed, and got ready for the entry ceremony of Marika in Ochanomizu Junior High school on Sunday. She is very exited, strutting around in her brilliant blue sailor uniform, trying her shoes and chatting with her mom. Wonderful! A big day for her, and she went to sleep early. I am glad I feel fit enough so I can be there with her.

Scan result
Today I went for a CT scan, blood test and infusion no17.
Doc Namikawa said the scan and blood test look good. Yeah!
I feel like a mountain; strong, unshakable and reaching for the sky.
Life is good. My work is not draining my energy anymore and I can reach 6pm now, after a long day of meetings with complex strategic discussions.
My skin is changing though. Pigment disappears and I am getting distinguished grey hair.
It’s about time at my age. :-)

A quiet lake
Life is as if on a yacht,
in the middle of a lake, surrounded by flowers,
stillness, no wind, no need to get anywhere,
just enjoying...

Spring has come again
Last year I was so happy with spring and now again. Such a great feeling to feel healthy. We walked through a botanical garden to enjoy the cherry blossom. It’s such a cultural experience, seeing all those families enjoying picknick and making pictures.
Life is full again with life! No more sadness and all that. I read the stories and suffering of other patients, going through same or worse xperiences. It keeps me on my toes, ready to fight. I am so glad it doesn’t affect my positive mindset, which I try to analyze but to no avail.
My confidence in being protected and supported by Him is tremendous. It leads me on my path, and makes me feel so grateful. I wish this trust in Him is a given for every one.
I work full-time again and am given a new mission of strategic planning. This matches what I can do without travel and gives me no stress. I feel so blessed.
